US credibility in doubt after Israeli strike hits Hamas in Doha, says analyst

Adam Weinstein, Deputy Director of the Middle East Program at the Quincy Institute, told Al Jazeera that Washington’s response to Israel’s strike in Doha was contradictory, slow, and damaging to US credibility. While calling the attack unilateral and unhelpful, the Trump administration also described it as a potential opening for peace, a stance Weinstein argued was incoherent. He said the strike undermines Qatar’s role as a trusted mediator, given that the attack hit the very place hosting negotiations. Weinstein noted that Qatar, a major non-NATO ally with deep US military ties, will now question the value of American security guarantees. He warned the incident could hurt Doha’s reputation as a safe hub for diplomacy and even its transit tourism. Israel, he added, is sending the message that Hamas leaders are vulnerable anywhere, but conducting such a strike in Qatar crosses a red line. Without firm US pushback, he cautioned, Israel is likely to keep sabotaging prospects for negotiated settlements.Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on X: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/ Check out our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/aljazeeraenglish/ Download AJE Mobile App: https://aje.io/AJEMobile#DohaAttack #IsraelStrike #Hamas #Qatar #DonaldTrump #USPolitics #GazaCeasefireTalks #IsraelAttacksQatar #GulfSecurity #GazaWar #AlJazeeraEnglish
