Thailand frees 18 Cambodian soldiers as part of ceasefire deal
Thailand has released 18 Cambodian soldiers it captured in July as part of a new ceasefire deal. A large crowd greeted the soldiers as they arrived in Cambodia’s western Pailin province. Both countries signed the ceasefire on Saturday. The agreement ended three weeks of renewed cross-border fighting that killed more than a hundred people and displaced around a million.Al Jazeera’s Assed Baig has more from Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province, near the border with Thailand.Ja Ian Chong is Associate Professor of political science at the National University of Singapore.
